A good piece of advice that we like to give to patients that we see is to only use a pea size amount of toothpaste when they brush their teeth. Sometimes when we mention this, they wonder if that's a sufficient amount of toothpaste to completely clean all of their teeth. Some of them have even asked something along the lines of "Then why do they show on T.V. a full strip of toothpaste that covers the entire bristles" to which we have responded with "Maybe they show that so you can use your toothpaste faster and buy more from them".
The reality is that a full strip of toothpaste that covers the whole brush head is way too much product to be using. You really only need a "pea size" amount of toothpaste for it to be sufficient enough to help protect your teeth, although we always insist that they look at the back of their toothpaste manufacture's instructions to check for the proper amount of toothpaste that they should be using. For the most part they will instruct to use a "dab", however this can be very vague and can vary from person to person, but for us (an many other colleagues a "dab" is about a pea size amount, but use your own judgement.
Thank you for taking the time to ready this blog, hopefully it can help you save some toothpaste! If you found this tip helpful we would appreciate it if you shared it with your friends and family. It only takes 30 seconds of your time and it helps us out a lot. If you're looking for a new toothbrush we recommend trying out the Goby toothbrush or the BURST toothbrush.
