This is how much toothpaste you should be using...
A tip I like to give my recall patients is to only used a pea-size amount of toothpaste when they brush their teeth. Most of the time I mention this I watch them stare into the ceiling possibly wondering if that's a sufficient amount of toothpaste to completely clean all of their teeth. Some of them have even asked me something along the lines of "Then why do they show on T.V. a full strip of toothpaste that covers the whole brush head?" and I always respond with "Maybe they show that so you can waste your toothpaste faster and buy more from them" with a smile and watch them laugh.
The truth is that for most toothpaste companies a full strip of toothpaste that covers the whole brush head is way too much product to be using, but I always insist that they look at the back of their toothpaste container to check for the proper/correct amount of toothpaste that they should be using. For the most part they will say to use a "dab", however this can be very vague and can vary from person to person. To me a "dab" is a pea-sized amount, but use your own judgement.
